Ok, tequila, margaritas and Mexican food go hand and hand, but have you ever had mezcal? Tequila technically is a type of mezcal, but all mezcals are not tequilas. Confusing, right? They’re both made from the agave plant, but the distillation process is different. All in all, mezcal cocktails are smokier, more flavorful and bolder! Definitely worthy of your Cinco de Mayo celebration!
Mezcal can attribute it’s smoky flavors to the distillation process. Traditionally the agave is baked inside pit ovens that are filled with hot rocks, wood, and charcoal. They are later mashed, fermented and then distilled in clay pots.
They are also typically made in small batches, so the flavor profiles are more intense. Are you a mezcal fan now? Get your hands on a bottle and try these cocktails out ASAP!
