We’re all guilty of roughly wiping makeup off with a makeup wipe and going to bed with a whole bunch of grossness on our skin. Well, this has to stop, now. The key to youthful, tight, healthy skin is care, and recognizing the importance of that is key. On our last skincare post, Glowing Skin with These 5 Tips, I mentioned my daily skincare routine and received messages asking for more details on double cleansing. So, let’s start with the basics.
What is double cleansing and why is it so great?
I discovered double cleansing when I was hours deep in Reddit’s skincare subreddit. It’s a gold mine; if you haven’t checked it out, you should. Double cleansing is a face cleansing method originating in Korea that women use to attain a fresh, really clean face. Basically, double cleansing is washing your face 2 times, once with an oil-based cleanser and then with a water-based cleanser. The first step breaks down the residual makeup, dirt, SPF, and pollutants on your face. The second step gently deep cleans your pores. Together, this power-house duo effectively removes impurities from your skin without irritating your skin. It has been a game changer in my routine.
Is double cleansing right for me?
If you have oily skin, you might think that an oil cleanser is redundant. But this isn’t always the case. Even if you have oily, acne prone skin, the oil cleanser can help draw out the acne-causing impurities leading to fewer breakouts. Oil cleansers help remove sebum which in turn balances your skin and prevents excess sebum production. Simply using a water-based cleanser may stip away your face’s necessary oils, leading to dry, irritated skin. The combo process helps to avoid too oily and too dry skin by finding a balance between the two.
Now if you have sensitive skin, make sure you look at the ingredients for any flare-up factors and test sparingly.

Steps to double cleansing your skin.
Double cleansing is actually pretty simple and doesn’t add too much time to your skincare routine. We recommend doing in in the morning to cleans the impurities that your skin accumulated throughout the night and also at night to wash away the daytime pollutants.
Step 1:
Use an oil-based cleanser to break down makeup and oil buildup. Gently massage in an upward motion to really break down the junk. Dampen a clean face towel with warm water and gently wipe off the oil.
Step 2:
Dampen your face with water and then massage a water-based cleanser in an upward motion for a few seconds. Rinse thoroughly and continue with your skincare routine.
