This is for all of your dark haired babes out there. The ones that struggle to find a dry shampoo for dark hair that doesn’t give you grandma’s hair at the roots. I feel you girl, been there, done that! So, I’ve tested out a few different dry shampoos and narrowed it down to a few options that work well for different hair types. They’re also at various price points, ranging from $6.59 to $28.

Let’s start with the basics; what is dry shampoo and how does it work?:
Dry shampoos is essentially made with alcohol or a fine powder that absorb oils and renews the hair without using water. Dry shampoo also absorbs excess sebum from your roots and leaves your hair feeling and smelling fresher, without making it frizzy and dry.

A few tips that will carry your dry shampoo a long way:
- Put the dry shampoo in at night before bed; it will absorb oil as you sleep. We call this the marinating method, LOL
- If you forget to put it in the night before, blow drying it into your hair with cool air will absorb the powder better. You’ll get a more seamless blend.
- Don’t spray it close to your head. At least 6 inches away from your hair. Start from the roots and then massage it in after letting it marinate.
- Apply it in layers. Start at the crown, where the hair is the oiliest and work to the neckline.
- Whip your hair back and forth! Y’all I kid you not, this adds so much volume and helps the powder absorb as well.
Also, if you’re looking for a way to hide unwashed hair without using dry shampoo, try some cute hair accessories, like a hair scarf. They’re so trendy and can easily hide 4 day old hair!
