After spending a summer abroad in Australia on an eco-lodge, I made an active effort towards being more environmentally friendly. Annnnd I’m going to help you do the same.
Not gonna lie, I’m the girl that cries at the end of any nature documentary. I’ve also learned that our choices play a huge role in environmental outcomes. Every little effort to reduce your carbon footprint is a step in the right direction. These changes aren’t even that hard. When I saw that Reebok came out with Cotton and Corn shoes, made literally from things that grow, I was amazed. Not just because the shoes were adorable, but also because it was so easy to make the sustainable choice. It was really a no brainer.
More on these shoes that are changing the world below, along with my tips on how to be more eco-friendly in your daily life.

So what makes these shoes so special. Well, they’re actually made of cotton and corn! They’re constructed from a cotton upper and have a corn based sole. That’s not all, Reebok Cotton and Corn shoes are USDA Certified 75% bio-based. Reebok set out on a journey to create the most sustainable shoes on the planet, and they succeeded. They’re the only shoes on the market can claim this – it’s that sustainable!
If you’re still searching for gifts this holiday season, these are a great eco-friendly option that can be styled many different ways. I loved pairing it with denim, and with leggings. Since they’re a neutral color, they’re very versatile. Oh, and they’re super comfortable too.
How to be more eco-friendly in your daily life.
Reduce your energy consumption.
Just turn it off when you aren’t using it. This applies to everything, all day. Consider getting LED light bulbs (it’ll save your energy bills too!) Using less energy will reduce your carbon footprint, which in turn will help the environment.
Don’t waste food.
Try to be mindful when purchasing perishables to reduce food waste. I find that making lists and tracking past food waste will help with reducing this in the future. We were guilty of throwing uncooked food away all the time, but now I make a conscious effort to meal prep and purchase accordingly.

Recycle, recycle, recycle!
With trash companies making it easier and easier to recycle, this should be a daily thing. If you can, compost your food too. My parents have a composting bin in their backyard, and they use it for every scrap. It only takes a few extra minutes, but the benefits are substantial.
Use less Plastic.
Try taking reusable containers with you to avoid needed plastic. We keep canvas bags in the car for grocery shopping and we use glass containers for our meal preps. We also avoid using straws when we eat out.

Make the eco-friendly choice.
Whether it’s buying organic or purchasing sustainably sourced produce, pick the option that is eco-friendly. This applies to clothing, furniture and pretty much anything. There are so many items that are made of recycled materials, all it takes is a little research.
